The volume discusses:

• How university leaders articulate their regional development vision 
• What strategic actions university leaders can effectively use to manage the interactive relationships between university goals and regional development 
• How public universities effectively promote, direct and reinforce regional development internally as well as at the local and/or national level through specific regional partnerships 
• What outcomes are important when evaluating public universities’ performance in regional development
• What issues and challenges arise from regional development activities
  

Contents: In addition to introductory and concluding chapters, the book features case study chapters around four broad themes—economic, technological, societal, and environmental development. The international focus distinguishes this volume from other publications on regional development.
